Rare GB block - May 2008

Victoria Lajer reports the availability of this GB 1½ d marginal block of 10 from cylinder 7 dot, perf. type 5 with the 2-hole extension. Harvey Russell reports: ”It is the only block extant! All other pieces with this perforation are in strips (of 3 or more). So - to answer your question - YES!!!! it is howlingly rare!!!” Victoria may be contacted at: victoria.lajer@btconnect.com

Leewards Constant Frame variety - May 2008

A small frame-colour hairline from extending down from the value tablet appears to be constant on examples of such Leeward Islands 1/- that also boast the vignette “Split Pea” variety, thus giving its sheet position as 2/1.

The same list also indicates sheet-numbering data as follows:

  • Leeward Is 1d also used a four-digit box
  • Gibraltar was numbered 001 – 100, then repeated

Our table at “More between the sheets” has been amended accordingly.

The SG list also notes that the top hole of the “I” of specimen for Br Solomon Is is invariably missing.

Other Updates

Besides a placing of the first draft of postal rates of Gold Coast, those of Cyprus have had additions and those of Trinidad & Tobago amended.

Also, thanks to Dave Gillis and others, further data has been added to More between the sheets and the article on Australian prefins at Puncturing Oz has been augmented with recently acquired material, including this double puncturing on half a 3d value.
